Senior Project Manager – MEP / Mechanical Construction

Location: Charlotte, NC (Onsite)
Employment Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Compensation: $125,000 – $150,000 annually + discretionary annual bonus
Additional Compensation: $452/month vehicle allowance + $80/month phone allowance + mileage reimbursement
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 100% onsite at project site
Travel: Local commute to project site only (no overnight or regional travel)


Position Overview
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager – MEP to support large-scale healthcare construction projects in Charlotte, NC. This role is responsible for overseeing HVAC, plumbing, and medical gas system installations on high-value hospital and healthcare construction projects.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years of project management experience working for a mechanical subcontractor and strong hands-on experience managing $10M+ healthcare or mission-critical construction projects.


Key Responsibilities

Project Management and Execution
  • Lead HVAC, plumbing, and medical gas system installations from preconstruction through project completion
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with contract documents
  • Maintain and manage project schedules, milestones, and deliverables

Financial and Contract Management
  • Develop and manage project budgets, job costing, and financial reporting
  • Conduct monthly cost reviews and identify potential risks or cost deviations
  • Review estimates and ensure alignment with project scope and financial targets
  • Negotiate and execute purchase orders and subcontracts

Vendor and Stakeholder Management
  • Manage subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure quality and compliance
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, general contractors, and internal teams
  • Review and approve submittals to ensure accuracy and adherence to specifications

Healthcare and Safety Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare construction standards, safety regulations, and infection control protocols
  • Lead safety meetings, site walks, and incident investigations
  • Promote a culture of safety and accountability on all project sites

Team Leadership and Development
  • Lead and mentor field teams, including foremen, superintendents, and project staff
  • Provide direction, support, and performance oversight to ensure successful project execution

Reporting and Documentation
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, reporting, and communication with stakeholders
  • Provide regular project updates, including financial performance and schedule status


Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of project management experience working for a mechanical subcontractor
  • Proven experience managing $10M+ healthcare or hospital construction projects
  • Hands-on experience with MEP systems (HVAC, plumbing, medical gas)
  • Strong financial management and job costing experience
  • Experience managing subcontractors and large project teams
  • Knowledge of healthcare construction safety standards and infection control practices


Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Equivalent hands-on experience in HVAC or plumbing trades will be considered


Preferred Background
  • Trade progression experience (Plumber to Foreman to Superintendent to Project Manager)
  • Experience working on mission-critical healthcare construction projects
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
