Senior Coordinator, Freight Forwarding – Ocean Import & Export
Location: Plano, TX
Employment Type: Direct Hire
Work Arrangement: Hybrid | 3 Days Onsite / 2 Days Remote
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
Salary: $65,000–$72,000 Annually
Bonus: Discretionary Bonus Eligibility
Position Overview
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Senior Coordinator, Freight Forwarding – Ocean Import & Export for a direct-hire opportunity in Plano, TX. This hybrid role is responsible for managing end-to-end international freight forwarding operations, with a primary focus on ocean import and export shipments, NVOCC operations, customs clearance coordination, shipment documentation, carrier management, and customer service.
The Senior Coordinator will independently manage assigned customer accounts while providing operational support and oversight to freight forwarding specialists. The ideal candidate has 4–5+ years of international freight forwarding experience, strong knowledge of global trade and FMC regulations, and at least 2 years of hands-on CargoWise experience.
Key Responsibilities

Manage end-to-end international freight forwarding operations for assigned customer accounts, including ocean import and export shipments.

Coordinate transportation, shipment documentation, customs clearance, delivery, and related logistics activities.

Oversee and support freight forwarding specialists to ensure department procedures, operational standards, and customer requirements are followed accurately.

Track shipment performance from origin through final delivery and provide timely updates to customers and internal teams.

Monitor customer service quality and assist with resolving escalated shipment, customs, carrier, and logistics issues.

Maintain strong relationships with ocean carriers, vendors, overseas agents, customs partners, and other service providers.

Review and approve negotiated freight rates to support budget, cost-efficiency, and profitability goals.

Audit shipment data, documentation, and system entries for accuracy and completeness.

Provide training, guidance, and feedback to team members regarding freight forwarding processes and documentation requirements.

Ensure compliance with global trade regulations, Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) requirements, company policies, and applicable import/export regulations.

Review billing and payment information for accuracy and support profit margin tracking for assigned accounts.

Prepare customer invoices as needed.

Process payments to vendors, carriers, service providers, and overseas agents.

Create, maintain, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Identify and implement process improvements to increase operational efficiency, accuracy, and service quality.

Support air freight and other international transportation operations as needed.

Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
-
4–5+ years of international freight forwarding experience, including ocean import and export operations.

Experience working with NVOCC ocean freight operations.

Experience with international air freight forwarding.

Minimum 2 years of hands-on CargoWise experience required.

Strong knowledge of international freight forwarding, customs clearance processes, and import/export documentation.

Knowledge of global trade regulations, including FMC requirements.

Familiarity with multiple transportation modes, including ocean, air, road, and rail.

Experience working with carriers, vendors, overseas agents, and other logistics service providers.

Strong understanding of freight rates, billing, vendor payments, and shipment profitability.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Excellent communication, negotiation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously.

Customer-focused mindset with the ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
Education
-
Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, Transportation, or a related field preferred.

Five years of relevant freight forwarding or logistics experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications

Japanese language skills preferred but not required.

Experience supporting both ocean and air import/export freight forwarding operations.
-
Previous experience providing operational guidance, training, or support to freight forwarding specialists or coordinators.
