Location: Remote – Must reside in AR, CA, GA, IL, KY, MI, NC, NY, OH, PA, TN, or TX
Location Preference: Candidates located in Eastern Time Zone states preferred
Employment Type: Full-Time
Work Arrangement: Remote
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–4:00 PM Eastern
Weekend Rotation: Every sixth weekend
Salary: $65,000–$73,000 annually + bonus eligibility
Travel: Approximately 5%
Position Overview
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Senior Carrier Procurement Specialist, Domestic for a remote opportunity supporting domestic truckload transportation operations. This role is responsible for sourcing, developing, and managing carrier partnerships while overseeing the full lifecycle of truckload shipments from carrier procurement and pricing through dispatch, tracking, exception management, and delivery.
The Senior Carrier Procurement Specialist will also support business development and customer account management by prospecting for new opportunities, presenting transportation solutions, negotiating rates, and maintaining strong relationships with customers and carriers.
The ideal candidate brings 3–5+ years of carrier sales and freight brokerage experience, strong knowledge of domestic truckload operations, and proven experience with carrier sourcing, vetting, pricing, rate negotiation, and customer account management.
Key Responsibilities
Truckload Operations
-
Manage domestic truckload shipments throughout the full transportation lifecycle, including carrier procurement, pricing, dispatch, tracking, tracing, exception management, and delivery.

Utilize Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and carrier sourcing, pricing, tracking, and vetting platforms to execute daily operations.

Monitor shipments in transit and proactively communicate delays, service disruptions, and other exceptions.

Identify and implement solutions to resolve operational issues and maintain successful delivery performance.

Prepare customer proposals, freight quotes, and transportation recommendations based on service requirements.

Develop, maintain, and periodically review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for assigned accounts.

Participate in internal audits to support operational compliance and process consistency.

Deliver responsive, professional customer service to internal and external stakeholders.

Meet or exceed established daily, weekly, and monthly performance goals.

Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Carrier Procurement & Sourcing
-
Source and secure qualified truckload carriers to support customer transportation requirements.

Build and maintain strong carrier relationships through phone, email, and ongoing account management.

Conduct carrier discovery calls, onboarding meetings, business reviews, and performance discussions.

Vet carriers using carrier compliance, security, quality, and risk-management platforms.

Evaluate carrier service capabilities, safety and compliance requirements, and operational performance.

Negotiate carrier rates and transportation solutions to achieve capacity, service, and profitability objectives.

Monitor carrier performance and address service or operational concerns.

Identify opportunities to strengthen carrier partnerships and expand available capacity.
Sales & Customer Development

Develop new business through prospecting, networking, cold calling, and virtual presentations.

Present transportation and logistics service offerings to prospective customers.
-
Identify customer transportation needs and recommend appropriate solutions.
-
Manage customer relationships throughout the transportation lifecycle, from opportunity development through shipment execution and ongoing account support.

Generate new revenue and work toward sales targets established by management.

Partner with the Sales team to expand business opportunities and secure new customers.

Maintain consistent communication with operations, sales, and other internal stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

3–5+ years of carrier sales, carrier procurement, or carrier sourcing experience within a domestic freight brokerage, transportation, or logistics environment.

3–5+ years of experience providing customer service to internal and external stakeholders in a fast-paced operational environment.
-
3–5+ years of experience utilizing carrier vetting platforms to evaluate compliance, security, service performance, and operational risk.
-
3–5+ years of experience with truckload pricing, freight market analysis, rate negotiation, and customer quoting.
-
3–5+ years of experience managing customer accounts throughout the transportation lifecycle.
-
Working knowledge of domestic transportation modes, truckload carrier networks, and freight brokerage operations.

Experience with carrier sourcing, procurement, dispatch, shipment tracking, tracing, and exception management.

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong carrier and customer relationships.

Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-
Strong negotiation, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
-
Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience with TAI TMS, Trucker Tools, Highway, or comparable transportation management, carrier sourcing, tracking, or carrier vetting platforms.
-
Experience supporting both carrier procurement and customer-facing business development.

Proven ability to meet carrier sales, revenue, margin, or operational performance targets.
