Compensation: $42 – $65 per hour (based on experience)


Position Summary

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Nurse Manager – Stepdown Unit to provide leadership and operational oversight within an acute care hospital environment in Framingham, Massachusetts. This role supports the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and is responsible for managing nursing operations within the Stepdown unit while ensuring high-quality, safe, and effective patient care.

The Nurse Manager will oversee clinical staff, coordinate patient care operations, and ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and evidence-based nursing practices. This position carries 24/7 accountability for assigned unit operations and plays a key role in supporting clinical staff development, patient safety initiatives, and efficient resource management.

This opportunity is ideal for a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with progressive leadership experience in an acute care hospital environment, particularly within Stepdown or similar patient care units.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Patient Care Oversight

  • Provide leadership and operational management for the Stepdown unit within an acute care hospital setting

  • Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality nursing care that aligns with clinical standards and hospital policies

  • Assist with the assessment, planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of patient care services

  • Support evidence-based clinical practice and patient safety initiatives across the unit

Staff Leadership & Development

  • Supervise, mentor, and support nursing staff including RNs and clinical team members

  • Foster a collaborative and professional work environment that promotes accountability and high performance

  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding, training, and ongoing development of nursing staff

  • Serve as a role model and advocate for the professional practice of nursing

Operational Management

  • Maintain 24/7 accountability for the assigned patient care unit

  • Assist with staffing coordination, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure appropriate patient care coverage

  • Monitor departmental performance, productivity, and operational efficiency

  • Support budget awareness and resource utilization within the unit

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure nursing care meets regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and organizational policies

  • Monitor clinical quality indicators and support performance improvement initiatives

  • Promote a culture of safety, quality improvement, and patient-centered care

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and hospital leadership to support nursing operations

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, clinical staff, and hospital departments

  • Maintain strong communication with staff regarding policies, procedures, and patient care initiatives


Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice

  • Academic degree in Nursing, including:

    • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

  • Minimum of 2 years of progressive leadership or management experience in an acute care hospital environment

  • Experience in roles with increasing leadership responsibility such as:

    • Charge Nurse

    • Assistant Nurse Manager

    • Nurse Supervisor

    • Nurse Manager

  • Acute Care experience required

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing preferred

  • Additional hospital leadership or clinical management experience in Stepdown or progressive care units

  • Strong clinical leadership and staff development capabilities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of hospital operations and patient care management

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment

  • Commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance


Work Environment

This role operates within a hospital-based acute care setting, supporting a Stepdown unit (not ICU). The position requires active engagement with clinical staff, hospital leadership, and interdisciplinary care teams to ensure effective patient care delivery.
