Patient Access Representative II
Schedule:

  • Shift 1: Sunday–Wednesday | 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM

  • Shift 2: Wednesday–Saturday | 1:00 PM – 1:00 AM

Employment Type: Contract to Hire
Location: Lebanon, NH | On Site
Pay: $18-$19.50


Job Summary

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking a Patient Access Representative II to support hospital and departmental operations by performing scheduling, registration, pre-admission, admission, reception, and discharge functions. This role is responsible for obtaining complete and accurate patient demographic and insurance information while delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Patient Access Representatives also educate patients on financial responsibilities and employ compliant patient liability collection techniques before, during, and after the date of service. This role may support multiple Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Registration & Customer Service

  • Greet patients and visitors professionally while providing world-class customer service.

  • Complete full patient registration at the time of service, ensuring accuracy of demographic and insurance information.

  • Explain and secure required hospital and patient legal documentation, including consent forms, conditions of service, advance directives, and other regulatory notices.

  • Scan protected health information and create, organize, and maintain patient information packets.

  • Assist with patient reception and discharge processes as needed.

Scheduling & Administrative Support

  • Assist with scheduling diagnostic procedures and hospital services.

  • Enter and maintain appointment data in scheduling systems and provide patients with appointment instructions.

  • Support coordination of post-discharge care and follow-up services when applicable.

Financial Clearance & Collections

  • Educate patients on financial responsibilities, including co-pays, deductibles, and other patient liabilities.

  • Utilize professional, compliant collection techniques to secure payments before, during, and after the date of service.

  • Perform cash handling, payment posting, and reconciliation in accordance with financial and cash control policies.

Insurance Verification & Compliance

  • Verify insurance benefits, eligibility, and coverage.

  • Obtain required authorizations for scheduled and unscheduled services.

  • Perform medical necessity checks in accordance with CMS guidelines.

  • Complete assigned registration and financial clearance worklists.

  • Secure inpatient visit notifications to payors.

  • Maintain compliance with regulatory, privacy, and healthcare standards.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute.

  • Proficiency with computers, printers, and standard office equipment.

  • Strong customer service skills with a professional demeanor.

  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to professionally negotiate and collect payments from patients and guarantors.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards.

  • Understanding of third-party payor requirements and healthcare compliance standards preferred.

  • Ability to perform essential duties in at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department.


Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • 0–1 year of customer service experience required.

  • 0–1 year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance environment, or related field preferred.

  • Some college coursework preferred.

  • Medical Terminology coursework required.


Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods.

  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for prolonged periods during the shift.

  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
