Compensation: $97,000–$150,000 annually (Based on Experience)

Position Overview

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing for a direct hire opportunity in Glendale, AZ. This leadership role is responsible for the overall operational, clinical, financial, and strategic management of an assigned nursing department. The Director of Nursing provides 24/7 leadership to ensure exceptional patient care, regulatory compliance, employee engagement, and operational excellence while supporting the hospital's mission, vision, and organizational goals.

The ideal candidate is an experienced nurse leader with a strong background in acute care hospital management, staff development, budgeting, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Department Leadership & Operations

  • Provide 24-hour leadership and operational oversight for an assigned nursing department.

  • Establish, implement, and enforce departmental policies, procedures, standards, and objectives.

  • Direct daily workflow while ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.

  • Lead departmental strategic planning initiatives aligned with organizational goals.

  • Approve department timekeeping, payroll edits, staffing plans, and supply orders.

  • Collaborate with physicians, hospital leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes.

Financial & Budget Management

  • Develop, manage, and maintain departmental operating budgets.

  • Monitor productivity, labor costs, and cost per unit of service to meet financial objectives.

  • Analyze budget variances and implement corrective action plans as needed.

  • Manage department supply chain activities and purchasing.

  • Allocate staffing and resources while balancing operational efficiency and financial performance.

Leadership & Staff Development

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, coach, mentor, evaluate, and retain nursing staff.

  • Conduct 30-day stay interviews, 90-day reviews, and annual performance evaluations.

  • Monitor employee engagement and turnover trends while implementing retention strategies.

  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and accountable work environment.

  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, safety standards, and professional practice guidelines.

  • Support employee education, competency development, and succession planning.

Patient Experience & Service Excellence

  • Promote an exceptional patient experience throughout the continuum of care.

  • Develop and implement initiatives to improve patient satisfaction scores.

  • Build and maintain strong physician relationships through effective collaboration.

  • Resolve patient, physician, and staff concerns promptly and professionally.

  • Oversee equipment maintenance, preventive maintenance schedules, service contracts, and repair documentation.

  • Represent the hospital on medical staff committees as assigned.

Quality & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission (JCAHO), CMS, state, and other regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor departmental quality indicators and performance metrics.

  • Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives.

  • Support organizational strategies related to Core Measures and patient safety.

  • Maintain departmental readiness for regulatory surveys and accreditation reviews.

Organizational Growth

  • Support initiatives that improve patient volumes and operational performance.

  • Mentor future nursing leaders and promote professional development.

  • Contribute to continuous process improvement and organizational growth initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Management, or a related field.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of nursing management experience in an acute care hospital.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or leadership experience.

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Arizona.

  • Experience managing department budgets, staffing, productivity, and operational performance.

  • Strong knowledge of Joint Commission (JCAHO), CMS, and healthcare regulatory requirements.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.

  • Proficiency with Kronos or similar workforce management/timekeeping systems.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).

  • Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing (WOCN) certification (for Wound Care leadership roles).

  • Experience leading quality improvement and patient experience initiatives.

  • Proven success developing high-performing clinical teams.
