About the Role
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Managed Care Pharmacist for a fully remote role with one of our healthcare clients. In this role, you will perform utilization reviews and clinical assessments to support prior authorization decisions for specialty medications.
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity, ideal for pharmacists with strong managed care experience and a commitment to quality patient outcomes. Candidates must be licensed in Hawaii or willing to obtain Hawaii licensure.

What You’ll Do
- Review and approve/deny prior authorizations based on medical necessity
- Collaborate with medical directors as needed
- Conduct specialty drug claim reviews
- Support case management through medication reviews and reconciliation post-discharge
- Contribute to medication adherence quality measures
- Redirect pharmaceutical claims to PBM when appropriate
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (PharmD preferred)
- Active and unrestricted pharmacist license (must be licensed in Hawaii or willing to obtain)
- 3–5 years of pharmacy experience
- 2+ years in managed care or medical management
- Prior authorization and utilization review experience required
- Familiarity with J-codes, Q-codes, ICD-9, CPT codes preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong written, verbal, and analytical communication skills
- Experience using EZ-CAP is a plus
Licensure Requirements
To practice in Hawaii, candidates must:
- Pass the NAPLEX (North American Pharmacist Licensure Exam)
- Pass the MPJE (Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam) for Hawaii
