Cardiac Certified Surgical Technician (CST)
Location: Worcester, MA
Employment Type: Full-Time (Days Only)
Schedule: Day Shift
Pay Rate: $30.00 – $47.00 per hour (based on experience)
Sign-On Bonus: $20,000 (paid in 5 installments over 2 years)
Position Overview
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking a Cardiac Certified Surgical Technician (CST) to support surgical teams in a fast-paced clinical environment in Worcester, Massachusetts.
This role is responsible for performing scrub duties within cardiac surgical procedures, maintaining sterile technique, preparing surgical instruments and supplies, and assisting physicians and nurses during operations. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented operating room setting.
Key Responsibilities
Surgical Support & Scrub Duties
- Perform scrub role during cardiac surgical procedures, passing instruments and supplies to surgeons
- Maintain strict aseptic technique throughout all surgical cases
- Anticipate surgeon needs and ensure efficient workflow during procedures
Operating Room Preparation
- Set up operating room with required instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies
- Prepare case carts and pull necessary supplies for scheduled procedures
- Ensure all equipment is functioning properly prior to procedures
Post-Procedure Responsibilities
- Break down surgical cases and properly dispose of or sterilize instruments
- Clean and reset operating rooms for subsequent procedures
- Prepare operating rooms and supplies for next day’s surgical schedule
Inventory & Equipment Management
- Monitor and restock surgical supplies and instruments as needed
- Ensure proper handling and storage of sterile equipment
Compliance & Safety
- Adhere to all hospital policies, safety standards, and infection control protocols
- Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices
Additional Duties
- Participate in on-call rotation as required by department needs
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technician program (must meet state regulations or hospital policy)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique and surgical instrumentation
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operating room environment
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ year of experience as a Surgical Technician, preferably in cardiac procedures
- New graduates are encouraged to apply if all certification and education requirements are met
Onboarding Requirements
- Successful completion of background check
- Completion of pre-employment health screening, including drug screening
