Job Title: Patient Access Market Director
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire (6-month assignment with potential to transition to full-time)
Location: Detroit, MI – Little to no travel required
Compensation: $50.30/hr – $62.88/hr + 10–15% bonus
Relocation: Available depending on distance
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (possible on-call during weekends)

Position Summary:
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Patient Access Market Director for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Detroit, MI. This position is responsible for leading patient access operations across assigned facilities, ensuring service level agreements, performance metrics, cost control, and employee engagement are achieved. The role requires daily onsite presence in the hospitals and strong leadership to drive operational excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct and execute patient access business processes, ensuring achievement of client service level agreements (SLAs) and process metrics.

  • Manage operational performance including cycle times, productivity, accuracy, quality monitoring, and adherence to process standards.

  • Oversee budget development and manage resources to meet financial goals, including P&L oversight and EBIT performance.

  • Lead change management efforts related to process improvements, staffing, and employee relations.

  • Provide operational support to additional hospital locations as needed.

  • Ensure adherence to standardized processes and collaborate with teams and stakeholders to achieve organizational goals.

Financial Responsibility:

  • Responsible for approximately $4–$5 million per market in operational budget oversight.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct Reports: Director, Patient Access I or II

  • Indirect Reports: Manager, Patient Access I or II

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of Patient Access Director (PAD) experience.

  • At least 5 years of director-level leadership experience, including 4+ years managing multi-level teams.

  • At least 1 year of director-level oversight across multiple facilities or equivalent business leadership experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field.

  • Knowledge of patient access workflows and healthcare revenue cycle.

  • Proficiency in operational metric management, P&L analysis, and performance improvement strategies.

  • Ability to motivate teams, improve engagement, and deliver results in complex environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Union leadership experience preferred but not required.

  • Accounts Receivable (AR) background in addition to patient access is a plus.

  • Strong decision-making skills and ability to work in ambiguous situations.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and customer service skills.

  • Proficiency with MS Office and web-based systems.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must live in Detroit and be present onsite daily.

  • Minimal travel required.

  • Relocation assistance available based on distance.
