Job Title: HR Automation Engineer (AI & RPA)
Location: Dallas, TX
Employment Type: Contract (Project-Based)
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (2–3 days onsite per week)
Pay Rate: $38 – $57 per hour
Position Overview
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking a highly technical HR Automation Engineer (AI & RPA) to design, build, and scale automation solutions across the Human Resources function. This role focuses on developing production-grade systems leveraging artificial intelligence and robotic process automation to streamline HR operations and improve efficiency.
The ideal candidate brings strong software engineering expertise, hands-on experience with automation tools, and the ability to build scalable, secure solutions that integrate with enterprise HR systems.
Key Responsibilities

Design and develop AI-driven automation solutions for HR processes using natural language processing, machine learning models, and orchestration frameworks

Build and deploy end-to-end robotic process automation workflows for HR operations

Develop scalable automation for onboarding, offboarding, employee lifecycle transactions, benefits processing, and leave management

Integrate automation tools with HR information systems through API development and system connectivity

Write clean, maintainable, and testable code to support automation logic and AI services
-
Implement event-driven architectures and workflow orchestration using modern system design practices
-
Build reusable automation components and frameworks to accelerate development
-
Ensure data security, privacy, and compliance when handling sensitive employee information
-
Monitor and optimize automation performance through logging and observability tools

Conduct testing, code reviews, and support continuous integration and deployment processes

Collaborate with HR, IT, and security teams to align solutions with business and technical requirements
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field

5+ years of experience in software engineering or automation development
-
Proven experience developing and deploying AI-driven or automation solutions in production environments

Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, JavaScript, C#, or Java

Hands-on experience with robotic process automation tools and workflow development

Experience integrating systems using APIs and web services

Familiarity with artificial intelligence concepts such as prompt engineering, embeddings, and data modeling

Experience with cloud platforms and modern deployment methods

Strong understanding of system design, authentication, and data handling best practices
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with AI orchestration frameworks and automation platforms

Familiarity with data storage and retrieval technologies used in AI applications

Experience building internal automation tools or developer platforms

Knowledge of process optimization and workflow analysis tools

Experience with continuous integration and deployment pipelines

Exposure to low-code or no-code automation platforms

Understanding of HR systems and data structures
