Employment Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Location: Montgomery, AL
Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite
Schedule: Project-based schedule; occasional 6-day workweeks and/or 10-hour workdays
Compensation: $116,860–$156,050 annually, based on experience
Relocation/Travel Support: Relocation assistance available or $650/week living allowance for eligible travelers

Position Overview

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking experienced Data Center General Superintendents to oversee field installation and construction activities for large-scale data center projects in Montgomery, AL. This role has overall responsibility for field labor, labor coordination, quality control, safety, subcontractor management, and successful project execution.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of superintendent-level commercial construction experience, significant experience on $10M+ data center projects, and hands-on expertise in plumbing, piping, mechanical, and/or HVAC construction. This position requires a strong field leader who can manage complex construction activities while maintaining project schedules, budgets, quality standards, and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for field installation and construction activities.

  • Take full responsibility for the quality and successful installation of assigned projects.

  • Lead and coordinate field labor, subcontractors, and on-site construction teams.

  • Partner with safety personnel to ensure all work complies with company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable regulations.

  • Conduct weekly safety meetings and reinforce safe work practices across the project site.

  • Review project submittals for accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.

  • Interpret plumbing, piping, mechanical, and HVAC drawings to support accurate field installation.

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily and long-term on-site construction activities.

  • Develop two-week look-ahead schedules and monitor project progress against established milestones.

  • Coordinate manpower requirements to ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained throughout the project.

  • Perform material takeoffs and coordinate the timely ordering of tools, materials, and equipment.

  • Schedule equipment deliveries and coordinate required inspections with general contractors and governing authorities.

  • Identify potential change orders and communicate cost and schedule impacts to project management.

  • Monitor labor reporting, job costs, productivity, and project performance.

  • Review and prepare field timesheets and related project documentation.

  • Administer construction contract requirements at the project-site level.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with customers, general contractors, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.

  • Proactively identify and resolve field issues that could impact safety, quality, schedule, or budget.

  • Drive project execution to achieve completion on schedule and within budget.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of superintendent experience within commercial or industrial construction.

  • Proven experience managing large-scale mechanical, plumbing, piping, and/or HVAC construction projects.

  • Data center construction experience on projects valued at $10 million or more is required.

  • Hands-on plumbing and/or piping construction experience is required.

  • Strong leadership experience managing field teams, subcontractors, and overall project execution.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret plumbing, piping, mechanical, and HVAC construction drawings.

  • Strong understanding of field construction operations, labor planning, scheduling, quality control, and safety.

  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and construction-site safety requirements.

  • Experience managing project schedules, manpower, materials, equipment, job costs, and field productivity.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with project management, field personnel, subcontractors, customers, and general contractors.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, email, Procore, and other construction management technology.

  • Ability and willingness to work 100% onsite in Montgomery, AL.

  • Ability to work extended schedules, including occasional 6-day workweeks and/or 10-hour workdays, based on project requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience leading field operations on large, mission-critical data center construction projects.

  • Deep knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, piping, and HVAC systems within data center environments.

  • Experience successfully delivering complex construction projects on schedule and within budget.

Additional Information

This position is 100% onsite in Montgomery, Alabama. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates. Eligible travelers may alternatively receive a $650 per week living allowance.
