Job Description

Wheeler Staffing Partners is hiring a Director of Operations with an industrial manufacturing client in Lincoln, NE. This position formulates, forecasts, and directs manufacturing policies, plans and activities which guide the operation to desired results.  The candidate will develop and execute improvement plans to maintain a profitable, competitive, position in the market while safely achieving our quality, schedule, and productivity targets.

Director of Operations Job Responsibilities:
  • Site leader for the Lincoln Operations. Drives IWT production planning, manufacturing engineering, materials, production, and quality activities toward the accomplishment of business objectives.
  • Joint ownership of revenue and profitability targets with sales, design engineering, and project management counterparts. Stakeholder in the proposal/bid review process to ensure incoming work has agreeable skill, schedule, and scope expectations.
  • Meets with customers in sales and execution phases of projects as required to improve order win rate, customer relations and support around any unique requirements such as additional quality holds or no-China/ no-India part selection.
  • Applies relevant custom engineered product and heavy steel welding and fabrication manufacturing industry processes knowledge. Ideally with ASME code knowledge
  • Enhances manufacturing policies and objectives; develops specific plans and programs with forecasted returns and supporting budgets.
  • Directs the manufacture of IWT boiler products at lowest cost consistent with established specifications as to safety, quality, and quantity.
  • Supervises installation and maintenance of all processing equipment used in Lincoln manufacturing
  • Directs preparation of control reports including: EHS, labor & material actuals, shop loading, environmental, and facility maintenance.
  • Insures prompt and economical purchase and receipt of needed materials to deliver finished products to customers. This includes outsourced components, plant equipment, supplies, and materials to meet production schedules and quality standards.
  • Establishes and maintains inventory controls and levels to conform with budgets and forecasts.
  • Provides effective management of subordinates to achieve desired results. Attributes necessary to meet this need may include written and verbal communications, motivation, team building, employee involvement, delegating, etc. skills as well as confidence and enthusiasm.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with other departments for intercompany WIP and deliverables.
  • Demonstrates creativity and adaptability to successfully manage responsibilities and effectively address changing business conditions to achieve objectives.
  • Manages the site’s ISO certification and renewal process.
  • Interfaces with others inside and outside the Company, using leadership and interpersonal skills to ensure effective discharge of responsibilities and outsourcing capabilities.
  • Travels to represent the Company with suppliers, representatives and end customers as necessary.
  • Interfaces with the bargaining unit, union steward, and union business leader. Involved in contract negotiations & labor relations.
  • Develops and executes an operating budget that improves profitability and is accurately forecasted
  • Creates a positive plant culture that demonstrates leadership in safety, environmental, quality, regulatory compliance, and employee development.
  • Maintains all 3rd party, insurance, and state certification compliance.
  • Determines plant policies consistent with company values and directs the application of those policies.
  • Represents the plant in the community and promote the company’s goodwill and interests in community activities.
Director of Operations Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering plus MBA or equivalent Degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of large industrial plant management experience in an advanced lean environment
  • Background in heavy steel fabrication and welding preferred. 
  • Black Belt Certification and Lean Manufacturing training, 3D modeling experience, ERP/MRP experience, P&L responsibility, and experience working in a union environment required
  • Willing to travel minimally (10-20%)
