Construction Manager (Wilmington, NC)

Construction Manager / Superintendent – Healthcare Construction
Location: Wilmington, NC (100% Onsite)
Employment Type: Direct Hire
Compensation: $88,000 – $110,000 annually (DOE)
Additional Compensation: Discretionary annual bonus + $452/month vehicle allowance + $80/month phone allowance (mileage reimbursement provided)
Position Overview
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Construction Manager / Superintendent to lead field operations for large-scale healthcare construction projects in Wilmington, NC. This role is responsible for day-to-day job site leadership, ensuring safety, schedule adherence, quality execution, and coordination of subcontractors and vendors.
The ideal candidate brings experience managing $10M+ healthcare construction projects and is well-versed in pull planning and the Last Planner System.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Execution
- Lead daily field operations in partnership with the Project Manager
- Coordinate subcontractors and vendors to ensure alignment with project schedule and contract documents
- Maintain job site safety, cleanliness, and professionalism
- Oversee implementation of the Project Quality Assurance Plan
Safety & Compliance
- Champion job site safety and enforce Site-Specific Safety Plan
- Lead safety meetings and manage incident reporting and investigations
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and permits
Scheduling & Planning
- Develop, maintain, and update project schedules
- Lead pull planning efforts and implement recovery plans as needed
- Monitor trade partner progress and ensure timely execution of work
Site Coordination & Documentation
- Coordinate inspections with authorities and third-party inspectors
- Manage daily reports, site documentation, and progress tracking
- Oversee submittals and ensure timely procurement of materials
- Support commissioning, start-up, and project closeout activities
Team Collaboration & Communication
- Participate in project meetings and provide updates on project progress
- Collaborate with internal teams to drive efficiencies and best practices
- Maintain strong communication with all project stakeholders
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or related field preferred
Experience
- 5+ years of experience as a Construction Manager or Superintendent
- Experience managing $10M+ healthcare or commercial construction projects
- Experience with pull planning and Last Planner System
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Procore (or similar), and Primavera (or similar)
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Work Environment & Travel
- 100% onsite at project site in Wilmington, NC
- Daily commute to project site (no additional travel required)
- Ability to work in active construction environments and perform physical site activities
