Position Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (Psych RN) to join our dynamic behavioral health team. This position offers the opportunity to provide meaningful care to individuals experiencing acute psychiatric and behavioral health challenges in a supportive and clinically advanced environment. The RN will be responsible for delivering evidence-based nursing interventions, supporting interdisciplinary treatment planning, and ensuring a safe, therapeutic setting for patients of all ages.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Clinical Oversight:
- Conduct thorough behavioral health assessments and develop individualized nursing care plans.
- Administer medications and monitor their effectiveness in collaboration with providers.
- Observe, evaluate, and document patient responses to interventions.
- Implement de-escalation techniques and maintain a safe, trauma-informed care environment.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in daily treatment planning and discharge preparation.
- Monitor patients for safety risks, including self-harm or aggressive behavior, and respond promptly to psychiatric emergencies.
- Participate in crisis intervention and the use of least-restrictive interventions when necessary.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies regarding restraint and seclusion protocols.
- Serve as a charge nurse or team leader when assigned, ensuring cohesive team functioning and care continuity.
- Delegate tasks appropriately to mental health technicians and other support staff.
- Promote a positive unit culture by fostering respectful communication, collaboration, and support among staff.
- Provide education to patients and families about mental health conditions, medication management, coping strategies, and available resources.
- Support recovery-focused care by encouraging patient engagement and participation in treatment decisions.
- Complete accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record in accordance with hospital policies and behavioral health standards.
- Ensure all physician orders are properly transcribed and carried out.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and legal documentation standards.
Qualifications:
Licensure & Certification:
- Current RN license in the state of Massachusetts (required)
- BLS certification (required)
- CPI or other crisis prevention/intervention certification (preferred or required within orientation)
- 1+ years of psychiatric or behavioral health nursing experience preferred
- Experience in inpatient mental health, substance use treatment, or crisis stabilization a plus
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
- Ability to work with diverse populations and multidisciplinary teams
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus
Additional Requirements:
- Must pass a background check and drug screening
- Compliance with vaccination and health clearance requirements
