Compensation: $90,000 – $130,000 annually + discretionary yearly bonus

Position Overview

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Hospital Facilities Manager to support large-scale hospital campus projects in Portland, ME and Hartford, CT. This role is responsible for overseeing Central Energy Plant (CEP) operations, optimizing energy usage strategies, and managing operational and maintenance activities across campus facilities.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, mechanical engineering expertise, and experience managing central plant operations within complex commercial or healthcare environments. This position will work closely with facility leadership and operations teams to improve efficiency, implement best practices, and ensure reliable plant performance.

This role is fully onsite at the assigned hospital project location and includes a 3–4 day training period at company headquarters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review daily energy usage and operational performance across campus facilities.
  • Provide guidance on energy management strategies, operational improvements, and best practices.
  • Manage Central Energy Plant (CEP) operations and maintenance activities.
  • Oversee subcontractors, plant operators, and internal service providers.
  • Monitor and manage Maintenance Reserve Accounts for the CEP.
  • Collaborate with plant operators to maintain efficient and reliable operations.
  • Conduct ongoing training and mentorship for plant operators and facility personnel.
  • Develop, update, and maintain Plant Operating Manuals and operational documentation.
  • Coordinate engineering, procurement, and construction activities with operations teams.
  • Support troubleshooting and diagnostics efforts in collaboration with remote support teams.
  • Lead and manage one or multiple teams consisting of Asset Managers and Assistant Asset Managers.
  • Promote operational efficiency, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 4+ years of management experience within a central energy plant or facility environment.
  • Experience managing multiple project sites and supervising Assistant Asset Managers or operational teams.
  • Mechanical commercial construction experience with a large mechanical subcontractor or MEP design consulting environment.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, energy systems, and associated industry standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive and collaborative approach.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification with pursuit of PE licensure strongly preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • 100% onsite at hospital project sites in Portland, ME or Hartford, CT.
  • Approximately 10–25% travel to project sites or office locations.
  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing stairs, and navigating active project environments.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and varying site conditions.
  • Ability to lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds as needed.
