Hospital Energy Facilities Manager
Locations: Hartford, CT (2 openings) | South Bend, IN (1 opening)
Employment Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite
Relocation Assistance: Available for qualified candidates
Compensation: $100,000–$135,000 annually
Additional Compensation: Discretionary annual bonus eligibility

Position Overview
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Hospital Energy Facilities Manager to oversee energy operations, facility performance, and central plant management across healthcare environments. This role is responsible for optimizing energy usage, managing central energy plant operations and maintenance activities, supporting facility efficiency initiatives, and leading operational teams across multiple sites.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in central energy plant management, mechanical construction, and engineering leadership with the ability to manage operations while driving efficiency improvements and mentoring internal teams.
Training for this role includes a 3–4 day onboarding period at company headquarters in New Orleans.
Key Responsibilities
Energy Management & Operational Strategy

Review and analyze facility energy usage on a daily basis

Identify opportunities for operational improvements and energy optimization

Develop recommendations and implement best practices to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs

Provide guidance and support on long-term energy strategies

Evaluate current operational processes and recommend enhancements
Central Energy Plant Operations

Manage operation and maintenance activities of central energy plant facilities
-
Oversee subcontractors, plant operators, and service providers supporting operations
-
Ensure facilities operate efficiently and consistently meet performance expectations

Monitor plant performance and coordinate corrective actions when necessary

Manage maintenance reserve budgets and operational expenditures
Leadership & Team Management

Lead and mentor operations staff and facility teams
-
Manage one or multiple teams consisting of Asset Managers and operational personnel
-
Provide training and ongoing development for plant operators and team members
-
Support employee performance management and operational excellence initiatives
-
Foster collaboration across internal and external stakeholders
Engineering Support & Project Coordination

Develop and maintain plant operating manuals and standard operating procedures
-
Support engineering, procurement, and construction activities related to facility operations
-
Coordinate troubleshooting efforts with onsite and remote support teams

Assist with implementation of facility upgrades and operational improvements
-
Ensure compliance with building codes and applicable industry standards
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program required
-
Minimum 4–6+ years of management experience in a central energy plant or facility environment required
-
Experience managing multiple project sites and Assistant Asset Managers required
-
4–6+ years of mechanical commercial construction experience with a large mechanical contractor or engineering consulting environment required

Strong understanding of building codes and associated standards required

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong organizational and leadership abilities

Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

Ability to adapt and perform additional responsibilities as operational needs evolve

Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Preferred Qualifications
-
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
-
Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification with pursuit of PE preferred

Experience supporting healthcare, campus, or large institutional facilities environments preferred
Travel Requirements
-
Travel approximately 10–25% to project sites and office locations as needed
Physical Requirements & Work Environment

Ability to climb stairs, ladders, ramps, scaffolding, and access elevated areas
-
Ability to move throughout active operational and facility environments, including tight or confined spaces
-
Frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, and work in varying positions for extended periods
-
Lift, move, and adjust equipment or materials up to 50 pounds
-
Work within active facilities and operational environments
