Overview:
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Patient Account Representative to join our client’s revenue cycle team. In this role, you will manage the full lifecycle of patient accounts—from creation through payment resolution. This position requires strong knowledge of the revenue cycle, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining collaboration with team members and leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work assigned patient accounts to ensure timely resolution and payment
- Follow up on claim submissions and remittance reviews for insurance collections
- Pursue outstanding balances from government and commercial payors
- Research and update patient and insurance information, ensuring account accuracy
- Access payer websites and utilize internal systems to resolve issues
- Review EOBs, UB04s, and HCFA 1500 forms to identify billing and coding discrepancies
- Document account activity in a clear, concise, and detailed manner
- Escalate problematic accounts to supervisors and open dispute records when necessary
- Identify payer behavior trends and recommend corrective action
- Assist in special projects and provide support to teammates as needed
- Meet or exceed department productivity and quality goals
Skills & Qualifications:
- Thorough understanding of the healthcare revenue cycle
- Familiarity with Commercial, Managed Care, Medicare, and Medicaid payors
- Knowledge of medical claims processes and collections best practices
- Intermediate understanding of managed care contracts, EOBs, and payer terminology (HMO, PPO, IPA, Capitation)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Ability to navigate hospital systems and payer websites efficiently
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
- Typing speed of at least 45 WPM
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Some college coursework in business administration, healthcare, or accounting preferred
- 1–4 years of experience in medical claims and/or hospital collections
