This individual will have proven experience working hospital denials—not from clinics, specialties, rehab, or provider-based settings. This role will focus on resolving insurance denials and underpayments to ensure hospitals receive accurate reimbursement.
Key Responsibilities

Analyze and resolve complex insurance denials and underpayments
-
Communicate with insurance companies and payers to follow up on claim statuses
-
Investigate denial reasons and submit effective appeals and documentation
-
Review contracts and billing data to ensure accurate reimbursement alignment
-
Utilize EHR and billing software to track and resolve claims
-
Prepare payer communications, appeals, and patient correspondences
-
Collaborate with team leads to identify denial trends and process improvements
-
Accurately document all actions and ensure full HIPAA compliance
Requirements
-
3+ years of hospital-specific experience in AR, billing, reimbursement, or collections
-
Strong experience working with UB-04 claim forms
-
Deep understanding of payer rules, denial codes, and appeal processes
-
Experience with major EHR platforms (EPIC, Paragon, Zirmed, etc.)

Knowledge of medical billing codes including CPT, ICD, DRG, and EOB/RA
-
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
-
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial billing
-
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field

Prior experience mentoring or supporting junior AR staff
